Research Ethics

As a graduate of the first NSF sponsored Graduate Research Ethics Education Workshop, I have a special interest in Research Ethics and the development of good research practices. As part of the Ethics Across the Curriculum program here at Clemson, I also incorporate the discussion of ethical issues into my undergraduate Genetics course, using a concept called "ethics labs".

I am a Special Projects fellow of the Rutland Center for Ethics Across the Curriculum.

Rutland Center projects I've been involved with include:

  • Panel member for "Transgenic Animals" part of Presidential Colloquium on The Integrity of the Academy,
    October 29, 2002

  • Panel member for Presidential Colloquium, Science and Values: New Frontiers, Perennial Questions, "Colored
Bodies: Henrietta Lacks and the HeLa Cells"
    , April 11, 2002

  • Co-designed, ran and taught in Research Ethics Workshop, sponsored by Sigma Xi and the Rutland Center,
    Jan 19, 2002, Madren Center

  • Co-designed, ran and taught in Ethics in Scholarship and Research Workshop, sponsored by University of
Pittsburg Survival Skills Program, the Rutland Center and the Graduate School, April 9, 2004, Hardin Hall

  • Nurturing an Ethical Environment, a yearly presentation to students in GEN730, the summer in-service course
for high school science teachers, with Kelly Smith and Dan Wueste
