AEL is an honor society for graduate and professional school students, it recognizes students who are in the top 35% of their college and no more than 1% of these students are accepted each year. AEL was founded in 1990 by John Capece, Carole Glover, Suresh Ramamurthi and the original members of AEL were spread throughout the country at different universities. AEL formed their first chapters in 1992 and have since grown to over 37 chapters; I encourage you to check out the National Chapter of AEL at http://gradschools.org/ for more information. Since 1994, when the Eta chapter was founded, there have been over 450 members accepted. In addition to honoring students for their academic achievement and leadership, the Eta chapter is also striving to increase awareness and involvement of graduate students on campus. We are currently involved in the “Solid Green, Keep Clemson Clean” program and have adopted the Lightsey Bridge area of campus.  In addition, we have also been involved with Science Fair Judging at the Oconee/Pickens/Anderson Regional Science Fair. Currently the officers of Eta AEL are working to get AEL involved in activities such as graduate school orientation and the Clemson chapter of habitat for humanity. Eta chapter is always interested in getting involved in activities that will increase awareness of AEL and graduate students on campus while promoting Academics, Excellence, Leadership (AEL), the founding reasons for why AEL exists. However, we also realize that everyone needs a break and time to just “chill-out.” With that in mind we work concession stands for concerts and sporting events on campus to raise money for the semester induction dinners and social activities. If you are a member of AEL we encourage you to come out to these events/activities and meet other AEL members like yourself. It is a great way to relax, socialize, network and be rewarded for all your hard work!
